Altruism - A. The practice of unselfish regard for the welfare of others. Her altruism took many forms, from working at a food bank to funding scholarships.
Allege - A. To assert without proof. My uncle alleged that a neighborhood dog had trampled his garden.
Aleatory - A. Unpredictable; pertaining to luck or chance. My father's attorney suggested an aleatory contract, since some aspects of the new partnership were uncertain.
Alms - C. Donations of money, food and other items to the needy. My mother's church collected alms for those who had lost their homes in the fire.
Alimentary - A. Concerned with the function of nutrition. You'd be better off if you considered the alimentary qualities of your food, not just its taste.
Alforja - B. Saddlebag, often made of leather. The cowboy's old alforja was tattered from years of use.
Altostratus - B. A cloud, usually of uniform gray color and medium altitude. The tall steel buildings seemed to blend into the altostratus behind them.
Algid - D. Cold; chilly. The dog raced onto the thawing ice and fell into the algid water.
Alameda - B. Public walkway shaded with trees. We strolled the alameda on our way to have lunch at the outdoor cafe.
