Fennec Fox
Jul. 31st, 2006 04:48 pmWe had no doctors scheduled to work today, so I was able to leave work an hour or so early. Yay! The bettas are happy in their sparkly clean home, I straightened up part of my room, and even got to watch a little of the Planet's Most Extreme. I didn't realize the platypus was Australian! Too cool.
Anyway, #10 was the Fennic Fox because they're the tiniest fox (smaller than a house cat) and yet they have the largest canid ears. They're adorable! The ears are dual purpose--sound for hunting, but also to help cool them off in the desert. This page has info and pictures, while there's a gorgeous photo here.
Oh, yeah. Scientist humor is pretty funny sometimes - the guys showing the pair of foxes said that they like to call their cooling mechanism "ear conditioning" - had to laugh, even though it's pretty sad at the same time. ^,,^
