Got to go hiking yesterday morning. And I was inspired to be prepared and take my camera so as to have some physical record of a place that I love and always enjoy. I am so glad that I did, as it was so pretty up there! There are flowers blooming and everything, it was so awesome.

I hadn't realized how incredibly much I had missed getting to go hiking. It's incredibly tiring and all that, but it is so worth it. As hard as it is, it's relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time. All four dogs went with me - I had only taken the three, but Coon caught up with us fifteen minutes into the walk. LOL. That's cool though, I love having as many dogs with me as possible, they're fun and you feel safer too. *G*

Going up the trail, I saw tons of wild irises. They were so pretty! There are lots of other flowers up there as well, but I have no idea what most of them are. The scotch broom is really striking against all the fir trees. There was even one particular plant that wasn't all yellow flowers, but had red streaks in it as well. Very cool looking!

There was a garter snake on the open trail - a very pretty black one with yellow racing stripes. I wanted to try to touch him to get a good picture of him, but I chickened out. ^__^ Saw a hawk too ~ They're so beautiful and they sound so awesome. My goofy Nate never rolls in anything that most of the other dogs roll in....but for SOME reason he found a snake or snake skin (I didn't look *that* closely*) irrestible. UGH!! (Not the pretty one, a different one...ahhhgggghhh, rambling now).

The walk/hike is reward as itself, but it is a very nice extra to get to see the wildlife! Saw some songbirds as well, but not very clearly. And even if I had seen them, probably wouldn't know what they are anyway. LOL. I have a new birdbook, but still am having problems with it. Still fun though! And they sounded so pretty and cheery!

Then on the walk home Coon and I saw two does cross the trail in front of us. We were both so tired we just watched them....I didn't even have the energy to try to lift my camera (would have just gotten a head and back, anwyay, due to the long grass), and Coon didn't even attempt to start after them! LOL! Good thing the pups weren't caught up with us at that point, they probably would have gone after them. Hah!

Anyway, had a wonderful two hour hike and nature viewing this morning. I hope the pictures turn out as well as I "feel" they did! (Sunday note: they did!! YAY!). Will have to take pictures more often, I've come to the point where I feel the need to document certain treasures in my life that I love dearly but have no visual reminders of, you know? Especially to see how things change over the years - places and people.
