I had to look it up to make sure, but yes it's the common name for the plant. The 'hen' is the main plant, and the 'chicks' are the offspring, which start as tiny buds on the main plant and soon sprout their own roots, taking up residence close to the mother plant. Apparently there are many varieties of succulents that fall under the hens & chicks umbrella, but mine and the plain green variation of mine are the ones I've seen the most. :o)
