Had a good hike this morning, though I was dressed in anticipation of it getting hot, and instead it stayed cool! Augh! Oh well, made for a very brisk hike and lots of foggy breath. *G* Saw a huge flock of the itty bittiest little birds! Don't know if they were baby finches, or what, but they sure were adorable.
Yesterday's trip through the horse barn rekindled my desire to someday get an adopted mustang. I've always been intrigued with the idea since high school, but never had the place or time or whatever. But still, every other year or so the desire hits again. But this year, there's a small ray of light at the end of the tunnel--we're checking into this grant thing, and IF it works out and we have some help for the house (especially if it's the one we're really interested in) then we would have room for a horse and there's even a small barn at the one we've got our eye on. Soooo....certainly won't happen this year, but it's still an exciting possibility to even think about. *tigger bounces*

Burns, the Oregon pick up site
There are some really interesting looking horses at Burns this year, and they look sweet tempered too. The main site has some horses that have been gentled by convicts up for bid, but they're further away, so I don't know...may just check and see if the horses in Burns are really wild still, or if they're used to people enough that they wouldn't be difficult to gentle ourselves. I dunno. Shall check into it *way* more before actually getting into it, like I said, it's not happening this year at all. :o)

I know burro is Spanish for donkey, but I don't see how that would fit together with the Mustangs. What am I missing here?

You know, I totally can't place how the word Mustang came about. ::quick search through dictionary:: "Etymology: Mexican Spanish mestengo, from Spanish, stray, from mesteƱo strayed, from mesta annual roundup of cattle that disposed of strays, from Medieval Latin (animalia) mixta mixed animals". Hmm. Still don't see how "mustang" came out of the rest of the words, really, but it is interesting. Thanks for wondering! ^__^
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Date: 2002-08-23 01:24 am (UTC)From:What I meant, and perhaps I didn't say it well, was that I can't understand why they use the word "burro"? If they mean donkey, surely they would say donkey, wouldn't they? So what do they mean by "burro"?
Nate is beautiful! He looks so strong and well and proud. The Australian Shephard part in him is well hidden though... ;)
I miss my old dog so much. Life just ain't the same without her. There's a story here in which she gets a mention.

Date: 2002-08-24 07:48 pm (UTC)From:hehe, thank you! I love him dearly. Yeah, I really don't see much Aussie in him, other than the coloration. But his sisters actually did have a little bit of Aussie "fluff" for hair! Whoever their daddy was, though, they took after a lot. The owners thought maybe the dad was a german shepherd...but I think the only reason they thought that was there was one in the neighborhood, because I sure don't see it! lol.
Thank you for sharing that story, I loved it! Nice to have such a beloved dog! ;o) It's so painful to miss one like that--I still miss Girl, the dog I grew up with, and she's been gone since '99. *sigh* But, they're such a treasure that it's certainly worth the heartache of missing them, for me. *hugs*
