Just saw the video for Hurt. Wow. I'd heard Mr. Cash had done a cover of the NIN song; however, I wasn't sure how it would work out. Tsk, tsk. Silly me! It was awesome and powerful. I absolutely must end up buying the album. Wish it wasn't so expensive around here. Argh. I find it fascinating how well Johnny Cash does at making a song his yet keeps true to the power/movement/emotion of the original as well. Absolutely love it.

i agree its brilliant. i also think he is dying and doesn't have many songs left and you can hear it in his voice. i hope i'm wrong on that though.

I know, he's beginning to look frighteningly fragile. Though I read his article in RS the other (week? month?) and he seemed quite fiesty in it still. Hard to say. I'm hoping he has a long time left though.

I love the song, too. (both versions) I've heard another song from his new album on the local alternative station (I don't listen to country stations anymore for about a decade and a half now, sorry)that was also really good. "I hang my head" ?

But yeah, if spare money were to be had, this would definitely be on my album buying list. Or, heh, CD buying list--I'm dating myself.

The only time I listen to country stations anymore is with family. Otherwise it's all alternative or cd's, or occasionally pop. heh. I actually saw the video on m2 this morning, so that was cool. Have you ever heard "Rusty Cage" from a few albums ago? Originally it was a Soundgarden song...AWESOME. I was so excited that JC picked one of my fave bands to cover and did a spectacular job on it as well. ^___^

Hah!! I do that too. It just sounds nicer! Record, or album, rather than CD. Blah! It's on my want list...will look for the used version, but doubt I'll find it. Maybe if I ever get my cd's copied and try to sell them, I'll be able to get it. Just have to get organized in order to do that!

LOL. I know, it's a bit shocking that the two would mix like that. On his last few albums he's done songs by Soundgarden, Tom Petty, Beck...that I know of. I heard Fiona Apple's on one of the songs on the new album, but I've not had a chance to hear it yet. Should be interesting! :D
