I got tired of trying to find a free hosting site that didn't become "unfree" after a bit of time, so I decided to pay $5/month with Angelfire and they'll allow pics to be viewed from other websites as well. (Because for a picture to show in LJ, it has to be hosted somewhere that allows offsite sharing).
If you meant more literally, you just take the address of your picture and replace the * with " like so:
You have to watch out for .JPG vs .jpg, or BMP vs bmp, depending on how your photo program defaults.
Did that answer your question? Wasn't sure which angle you were wanting to know about. :o)
iconaddicts has a listing of free sites on their user page, if you want to check them out. I had tried fotki, but they only show the pictures for one day then do a dumb logo thing. Looked at a couple of others and just didn't feel up to trying them, but lots of the posters there like the free sites. If you're looking for free ones, maybe you'll like one of those. :o)
