Will get caught up replies either tonight or tomorrow morning. In the meantime, here are some BPAL reviews from last week and then a few from today:

Saturnalia - Unrestrained revelry, unchained licentiousness! Violet deepened with vetiver. Why do these wild sounding scents always smell so tame on me?! I've found several scents with violet lately that are just beautiful, and vetiver is always rich and luscious....so together they should be fabulous. Instead I get something light and prissy, with a hint of that icky wine note. Which isn't listed, so it's probably just a bad combo on me. :( Ten minutes later: still blah.

Tempest - A crisp ozone-tinged breeze. The scent of the first gentle rain before the storm. *happy sigh* So much better! This is absolute ozone and bright rain. In the middle of summer I can safely say that I am a true Oregonian and love rain, so this is a beautiful scent! By January, though, I'll be thoroughly sick of rain and have to put this scent away for mid-summer again. ^___^

Satan and Death With Sin Intervening - Opoponax, benzoin, orange blossom, mahogany, karakarounde, white tea and vetiver. Well, I don't recognize many of these scents! This is a fabulous combination though - bright and deep at the same time. Mmmm. Can't wait to see how this one turns out after I've worn it for a while.

And There Was a Great Cry in Egypt - Dark myrrh, white sandalwood, amber, hyssop, frankincense, honey, cypress, red musk, cardamom and saffron. Delicious and rich. My notes when I first tried it said "I hope this lasts on me." Unfortunately, it doesn't. Still, it's a very pretty scent while it lasts. May try this one in the oil burner next. I only had half an imp to start with, so I'll keep this one until it's gone. :o)

Vinland - The legendary site of the Viking colony in Newfoundland founded circa 985. Crisp northern wind blowing over loganberry, wild roses, prairie crocus, iris versicolor Linné, mountain avens, yellow birch bark, mayflower and maple leaf. Very pretty! Nice mix of florals with a hint of breeze over it. This one lasts a few hours, but has some throw to it. I'll actually get whiffs of this one as I'm moving around and it's just lovely.

Haunted - A mournful, poignant scent, thick with foreboding. Soft golden amber darkened with a touch of murky black musk. Ahhh, one of those dark sounding ones that actually works for me! Gorgeous scent. One of the deeper ones (like Voodoo and Sloth), but it does have a sweetness to it as well. Mmmm. This one makes me very happy!

Al-Shairan - The enemy of God, also named Iblis His scent is fiery, bright and thick with sweet sinfulness: clove, peach and orange with cinnamon, patchouli and dark incense notes. Again with the wonderfulness! The strongest notes for me are the peach/orange and the clove. OMG, yummy. Finally a spicy scent that actually sticks on my skin for more than 15 minutes. YAY!!!!

Thanatos - One of the horrible, painful, cruel, brooding, mocking and malignant children of Nyx, he is Death Incarnate, and is seen as a willowy young man, accompanied by a butterfly, bearing an inverted torch and funeral wreath in his hands. Dry white sandalwood and soft Siamese benzoin over a lugubrious blend of myrrh, Moroccan rose, mastic, tomb moss and a thin whiff of Greek incense. Very pretty, but oh so light on me. It's light enough that nothing really stood out at first, and ten minutes later it's just enough to hint at the memory of the scent. Into the swap pile it goes.

Okay, even for this stuff w/the whole set of cool names, "Satan & Death with Sin Intervening" stands out and deserves mention -- praise be the name! (hee--I am listening to some church guy who came on the radio station I was listening to, and it is clearly rubbing off on me, but you get the idea).

LOL. Yes, it certainly does stand out! That's fabulous timing, as well. ^___^

btw, got an answer on your question. The owner of BPAL is active on the forums, and posted that all the oils are organic. That's why there is some variation in oils from batch to batch. I think you have to be logged in to view the post (http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=3142), so here is the quote:

"First, an explanation of why some oils differ slightly in scent. Bluntly put, its simply because all of our oils are organic. Many of the oils are distilled or cold-pressed in-house, and the ones that we import are all in their pure and unadulterated form. In nature, the strength of scent, the tone, and the subtle olfactory nuances of a given flower, herb or fruit differ. No two roses are ever the same. We do our best to attempt at consistency, but sometimes due to the natural composition of the blends’ constituents this is impossible. The only way that we would be able to replicate every scent identically would be to either clone the plants or start manufacturing artificial perfumes.">
