This is a very snarky and very hilarious review of the newly released Anita Blake comic book - issue three! Already. *giggle*

Also,
triggerhappy, did I remember to remind you about Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden show coming out this month? And did I already ask you to tape it for me because I can't tape anything but fuzz on my vcr?! Pretty please?! ^____^
Today was a virtual Monday but pretty much okay, though the cold I thought was going away kind of made a reappearance today. Sucky. Thank goodness I have tomorrow off and can hopefully get over it.

Typeface vs. Font spam.
Date: 2007-01-03 04:31 am (UTC)From:“People use them interchangeable all the time but they aren't the same thing.
*From The Complete Manual of Typography, James Felici, pg29, (ISBN 0-321-12730-7 PeachPit Press, 2003)”
This is in my Adobe Type catalog at work. The thin strokes of the letter become relatively thicker when sized down, otherwise they'd disappear entirely if the entire letterform were scaled in proportion. It's not even a resizing so much as a total redrawing. Of course, if you were looking at those characters in actual 6 pt next to 72 pt, you wouldn't notice the difference. I, the type snob, wouldn't notice the difference. Many typefaces don't offer this many options, but the ones that do are the reason why Adobe and Monotype and Bitstream can charge tens of thousands of dollars for its type library.
So endeth today's lesson in Typography 101. Your homework is to be able to identify at a glance whether something is Arial or Helvetica. :)

Date: 2007-01-03 09:38 pm (UTC)From:Thank you for this lession. My homework has to be delayed though, because I don't actually have Helvetica on this computer. O.o I must have it at work, because I swear I've picked it before! We use Arial at work all the time so I'm pretty cool with it.

You'd think I'd know this because they are moving Battlestar Galactica to Sunday, not sure if it's before or after Dresden Files, but can't remember what date the ads said the show would be bakc on.
Damn. Quite the run on sentence.

Date: 2007-01-03 06:17 pm (UTC)From:And Sonya, wow, thanks for the Anita Blake comic links. I'd heard about it, but since it was based on the *early* books I thought it might be good. OMG, the artwork is utterly horrid. *shudders* Loved the snark though.

Date: 2007-01-03 09:32 pm (UTC)From:You're welcome! I'd heard about them before they came out, but then kind of forgot about them. I was with you in hoping they'd be good because they were based off the early ones, but... it looks like we were wrong. LOL. The snark was priceless, and I'm glad you enjoyed it as well as I did. ^___^
