It's not even noon yet and it's already a fantastic day! Gorgeous and sunny, and not yet suffocatingly hot. And we're going to go see a movie, so even if it is hot it's okay. *G*
Decided that instead of plowing ahead on the uphill stretches and then stopping when all I could hear was my raging heartbeat and ragged breath, I would pace myself better and go slow and steady. Worked much better, didn't have to stop at all until I was almost at the top of the first big hill (other than two stretching stops, but neither of those was very long at all). It felt great, and it was a nice steady burn instead of that kind that makes you want to die. lol.
When we emerged from the trees, there was this really cool looking charcoal grey bird--either a grouse or a quail. Papa said it could have been either, and I don't have time to look online at this moment. Regardless, it was cool! And then all of a sudden the ground ERUPTED in movement - there were babies scrambling around all over the place!! So adorable, and none of them were caught by the dogs so that's super good.
The rest of the hike was fantastic--and made it CLEAR to the end of the road, where we could see the crossroad. Totally awesome!!! Took me two hours to get there and 1.5 hours to get back. Going to have to figure out how long it is one of these days, because I have no idea.
Anyway, gotta run. Tired and hungry, and going to see Star Wars now. WHooo! :o)
