Today is a really good day so far. Slept in later than I had intended, but that's what happens when you go to bed an hour later, as well. Go figure. :o)

So got up and had breakfast, watched Trading Spaces. That was fun, even if I really kinda don't like that one designer, the one who's pregnant? She has neat ideas sometimes, but she's a bit overbearing if the people don't think their friends will like it....and that drives me crazy. But, it hardly matters, as I'm not going to sign up for that show. I'm not normally a control freak, but in that context I might well be. lol.

So, it's 9 by the time I get the dogs in the truck and we head over to Papa's. Much later than anticipated, but still, you'd think that'd be early enough that it wouldn't be terribly hot. Well, today, you'd think wrong. Still, enough shade here and there on the hike that it's bearable. So, off we go, the four of us. Decide to go up the normal "up" trail despite the berry bushes, so as not to disturb any bees twice after last week's debacle. Wearing jeans for protection, anti-bug sunscreen AND skin so soft. lol. Coonie deserted us before we made it to the section with the young trees, he must have thought sis was doing something in the arena. So, down to three dogs at that point. The first part of that section was fun, but about halfway up the berry bushes were crisscrossing all over the trail, and I became a bit afraid that I was going to get stuck in the berry bushes just about the time the bees discovered I was there. So, that became less fun but made it through it in one piece without freaking out. *__* I think next time I'm going to have to take the clippers with me, or the trail is going to become completely impassible.

Anyway, was really very thankful to make it up to the gravel trail today. It was HOT but still enjoyable. Made the shady spots that much more worth savoring, eh? hehe. Once we got off the gravel and onto the dirt, there were tons of neat little butterflies. (Well, tons might be an exaggeration, but there were more than five. At once! *G*) I actually did manage to get a couple pictures of them, so hopefully they'll turn out well. I really do wish I had a digital sometimes! And then on the way back from the quarry we spotted a couple of dragonflies as well--big, gorgeous ones! The one I saw closest was all black and grey when he was still, but when flying you'd see the prettiest irridescent blue as well. Mmmm! Butterflies and dragonflies (and ladybugs) are about the only insects I can truly find enjoyable, though I try really hard to like preying mantis's too....hehehe.

Managed to make it all the way back home without getting stung, though it was a little scary right where I got stung that last time. Then right before we made it to the gate, saw the flash of the doe jumping away...of course the dogs went after her, but she got away from them easily. Yay!! My uncle says she's been hanging around a lot lately, and he's seen her TWIN babies, too! Very cool. So I'm glad we didn't see the babies today, not with the dogs right there.

Some things I was pondering upon while up on the hill--the tendency to forget to verbalize or actually think about the things that you're thankful for, even if it's the really basic stuff. So, some of the things I'm thankful for: the ability to see all the wonderul things available for us, the ability to feel warm sunshine and cool breeze on my skin, the ability to smell the flowers, the grass, and even the weirdly decaying plantlife; the fact that my imperfect body is still fully capable of getting me from point A to Z without too much trouble, the joy of spending time with my adorable dogs, the trilling chirps of the birds flitting around, the sheer thrill of singing along with a wonderful song, the taste of a fantastic batch of potato salad and, lastly, the simple pleasure of a cool house on a hot day. heh.

Anyway, it was a fantastic morning, despite the worries about the heat and the bees. Came home to a wonderful cold shower and terrific lunch, so all is well with the world right now. ^__^
