All is well here, just haven't had time or energy for being online much this last week. Hope to have a real post tomorrow. :D

In the meantime, here is a fun little quiz with beautiful art. After rereading American Gods this week it makes me giggle to end up being Bast(et). I'm almost finished with it, then I can read Anansi Boys. *purr*

You scored as Bast. You are connected to Bast, Egyptian cat goddess, and goddess of the moon. Daughter of Ra. You are connected with joy, pleasure, music and dancing, and the moon.

. . . I always liked Bast. Plus, neat synchronicity. I just started American Gods in the bookstore earlier this week (Tuesday?). At this point I'm at the "OMG I can't believe this is so good" stage, but then, I've just read the first chapter and I do think Gaiman is one of the three most talented writers currently alive that I've read and can think of right now, so . . . I just put it on order from the local library this morning.

(Clearing out some of the inbox, sorry for the late reply)

Did you have a chance to finish American Gods? I loved that one even more on re-read this year. Anansi Boys is out in paperback now - I didn't find it quite as fabulous as American Gods, but still quite interesting. I was more fond of Shadow as a main character, plus the wider variety of gods in the first book.

Yeah, finished it, loved it. Either it or Pattern Recognition (William Gibson) is prolly gonna go down as my favorite work of fiction read in 2006 (tho Gardens of the Moon--Steve Erickson-is up there, too, hampered by me finding parts of the follow-ups objectionable). Funny you sent this to me today; I had xtra time waiting on the bus today and started Anansi Boys this morning. The beginning didn't blow me away like the opening of American Gods did, but I can't think of many openings that rivaled that one. I wanna do a review of AG, but I'll prolly never get the time. Do you know if he was deliberately writing in the style of different American authors in different parts of the book? I had that impression, anyway; the first chapter was like Elmore Leonard, except he did Leonard better than Leonard does, and other parts (some better than others) reminded me of other authors, tho some was also just Gaiman. Or maybe I'm just loopy.

Good to hear from you, tho.

So glad to hear you loved it. hehe, that's crazy about the timing! That is a nice perspective, though, that American Gods is actually that hard to beat. Especially the opening!

I don't know about the styles question. He may have done so. It seems to me that he did some of that sort of thing in the Sandman volumes, though it was waaaaay too subtle for me to pick up on. But I read his introduction about how he was honoring the old Sandmans and stuff, and he seems to be the kind of writer that enjoys doing neat little things like that.

Loopy can be good. hehe. You too!
